FAQ’s
1. What are the advantages of hiring concrete contractors like JAX Concrete Contractors?
As one of the most popular and durable construction materials, concrete is often the material of choice for many renovations and building projects, both residential and commercial. However, concrete is a material that needs careful handling so you can maximize its results. Here are some of the advantages of hiring professional concrete contractors like us:
• Enhanced durability and precision of the results, preventing your new concrete surface from cracking, chipping, among other potential issues
• Receive excellent services from professionally trained experts
• Increased cost-efficiency
• A more comprehensive understanding of your concrete needs
2. What’s the difference between concrete and cement?
Although the terms are often used interchangeably, with concrete sometimes being referred to as cement and vice-versa, this is incorrect. In reality, cement is only an ingredient found in concrete, whereas concrete is a mixture of various components and paste.
Concrete is a mixture composed of components like crushed stone or gravel and sand, which is combined with a paste consisting of cement and water. This makes concrete similar to mortar in terms of materials but tends to be more durable and stronger than mortar due to its added aggregates.</p Concrete also features a lower cement-to-water ratio and is of a thinner consistency than mortar.
3. How long is the drying time when using concrete in construction?
When referring to concrete, it doesn’t “dry” as it “cures.” Curing refers to the process of retaining the ideal amount of moisture of a material, such as concrete, either through physical action or chemical reaction to achieve the desired results – hardening. When concrete cures, it results in a tough and hardened surface that is highly durable and resistant to wear and tear.
For concrete, it takes around 28 days for it to cure fully, although it already sets and is hard enough to walk on after 24 to 48 hours after pouring. To ensure the durability and strength of your concrete slab, concrete must be poured under ideal curing conditions.
4. So, how long before I can use my new concrete surface?
Although the maximum curing time is 28 days, concrete is hard enough to walk on after 24 to 48 hours. For driveways and other concrete surfaces, you will need to allow the concrete to dry for up to a week or seven days after pouring before you can drive on it.
For heavier vehicles, it’s best if you allow the concrete to cure fully – at least 28 to 30 days – before you drive or park on it.
To avoid ruining your new concrete surface, place a warning tape around the perimeter to warn others to stay off the concrete while it cures.
5. How long do concrete surfaces last?
Concrete is one of the most durable yet affordable options out there for construction materials. The general lifespan of concrete surfaces, provided that they’re properly maintained, is around 50 years. However, this will depend on the quality of the concrete used and its strength. Work with only qualified concrete contractors who can provide you with high-quality materials and services.
