Short history 

Jacksonville University was founded in 1934 by Dr. J.B. Fuqua to provide “a challenging education in the liberal arts tradition.” It has remained true to its mission ever since- today it offers over 40 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate programs to nearly 2200 students from all 50 states and 100 other countries around the world. The university’s motto is “Artes liberales docere et reddere liberos,” which means “to teach freedom through liberal arts.” 

It has its radio station 

Jacksonville University is a private school, but it also has its own full-scale public radio station that serves the campus and the Jacksonville Metropolitan Area. The student body and faculty both contribute to WJCT Public Radio’s programming. You can listen in on the broadcasts during your visit by tuning into 89.0 FM! Jacksonville University also hosts an annual lecture series featuring prominent guests such as journalists, authors, and politicians. 

One of the coolest things about Jacksonville University is its location in downtown Jacksonville. The campus occupies a beautiful 22-acre riverside setting on the St. Johns River. Clubs and organization 

Jacksonville University offers all kinds of opportunities for students to get involved, including more than 100 student clubs and organizations, over 20 fraternities and sororities, performing arts troupes like The Players Theatre Company & Pipes Live! (The only collegiate bagpipe band in Florida), intramural sports, and more. The campus also hosts some annual events like the Jacksonville University FallFest Street Fair & Music Festival, which brings live entertainment to downtown Jacksonville in mid-November each year.
