Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens

The Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens is an urban oasis located in the heart of the city of Jacksonville, FL. The arboretum’s mission is to create a diverse environment that inspires people to learn, enjoy, and care for plants.

This richly planted garden has something for everyone, including children’s gardens, heritage gardens, picnic areas with beautiful views of the St. John River and Downtown skyline; rose gardens; formal garden beds; naturalistic settings; shade trees; water features (including one of Florida’s largest man-made lakes); conservatories filled with palms and other subtropical plants; Japanese Garden featuring authentic plantings from Kyoto Prefecture in Japan; and the three-acre Education Center, which provides classroom space for workshops, lectures and other events.

Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens is the first arboretum in Florida dedicated to education about plants of all kinds – trees, shrubs, palms, and grasses – as well as other horticultural areas of interest. JAG is a living museum that offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy nature’s beauty throughout all four seasons.

The Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens’ mission statement states: “To inspire people to learn about plants, experience their wonders, and care for them.”

Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens is an educational institution that offers many opportunities. It provides community outreach through workshops, lectures, programs in schools and nurseries throughout the region. The Jacksonville Arboretum also maintains one of Florida’s largest living collections of temperate zone plants from around the world with more than 3000 taxa.
